The Daily Quarterly: How did you hear about thedailyquarterly.com?
Jesse Heiman: Well, to be honest I had never heard of this site prior to this interview. But I’ve checked it out and it’s a good read.
TDQ: How excited are you that The Daily Quarterly asked you for an interview?
Heiman: Again I hadn’t heard of you before now, sorry, so I’m just treating this like any other interview which are always exciting to me. The idea that you want to hear about my life and career is great and flattering.
TDQ: What made you want to be in show business?
Heiman: When I was five years old I sat on my mother’s lap, crying face turned away from the screen because the movie was too scary, the alien too creepy for me at the time. That movie was “E.T.” Since then as I grew up, I knew I wanted to be involved in an industry where one movie can scare you one time and the next time make you laugh. I wanted to be the person coming up with the ideas, writing them down, having someone say “yes” and having that idea in front of millions on the silver screen within months. I wanted to entertain!
TDQ: Who was your favorite actor growing up?
Heiman: Michael J. Fox was my favorite actor when I was growing up and is still one of my favorites today. I so wanted to be the guy who had confidence to talk to women and also be a time traveler. The only way I knew to do that was by becoming an actor like Fox.
TDQ: What was your favorite movie growing up?
Heiman: “Back To The Future”
TDQ: Who was your favorite extra growing up?
Heiman: I don’t know, I never paid attention to the extras until I was one.
TDQ: What’s the best advice you’ve ever gotten?
Heiman: “Don’t give up when the going gets tough.”
TDQ: What’s the worst advice you’ve ever gotten?
Heiman: “It’s ok to splurge on yourself when you have money in the bank.”
TDQ: Who are your influences?
Heiman: My parents and family. Career-wise, Spielberg, Bay, Zemeckis, Ben Stiller, John Candy.
